Unite for Truth 2020

Over the past four years, AAC&U has been working with institutions of higher education from across the country to develop self-sustaining, community-integrated TRHT Campus Centers. Organized around the five pillars of the TRHT framework––narrative change, racial healing and relationship building, separation, law, and economy––the Centers seek to prepare the next generation of leaders to address racism and dismantle the persistent belief in a hierarchy of human value.

We are so proud of the great success of our TRHT Campus Centers and the tremendous impact they are having at their institutions and in their communities. Thus far, self-reported data collected through interviews, campus visits, and operational reports show the following:

  • 100% have been able to identify and share information regarding quality improvement components resulting from their activities and learn how these apply to their campus.
  • 80% have identified and engaged community partners with the TRHT effort. Some campuses are focusing on internal healing and understanding the narrative on race at their institutions before extending the invitation to community partners.
  • 100% of TRHT Campus Centers are engaging students, staff, and faculty.
  • The campuses have developed, or are developing, student-centered projects based on dismantling the false belief in the hierarchy of human value.

This progress is how we know we are making a real difference in individual lives, for institutions and the students they serve, and for our communities as a whole. This is also how we know that we are holding true to our strategic mission of making quality and equity the foundations for excellence in undergraduate education in service to democracy.

That is why we are asking you to give or pledge as generously as you can, if you are in a position to do so, today.

This year, the appeal is much more urgent. As the United States reckons with contemporary tragedies in the aftermath of the killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and so many more, its people have never fully acknowledged the historical legacies of racism that continue to harm people of color, such as poverty, mass incarceration, voter intimidation, redlining and segregation, and unequal access to high-quality education, to name just a few.

When you give, you are standing with AAC&U and demonstrating your belief in the promise of a more just society and in our collective ability, working alongside community partners, colleges and universities, to transform the racial narrative and heal the wounds of racism’s legacies.

It costs $40,000 to support the establishment of a new TRHT Campus Center. A total of $30,000 supports an institutional subaward for start-up funds and $10,000 supports a campus team’s participation in the TRHT Campus Center Institute. Help advance racial and social justice on our campuses and in our communities by supporting AAC&U Truth, Racial Healing & Transformation Campus Centers on this Giving Tuesday.
